LISA MAY TWO CLASSICS - one underground, one overground and neither, funnily enough, wombling free. In case you thought you'd momentarily lost your mind, yes 'Voodoo Ray' is A Guy Called Gerald's watershed acid house affair from the turn of the decade, back from the grave again complete with pointless reworkings that come nowhere near the original's towering strength. And who in voodoo is Lisa May, you may well ask? She's the voice behind the haunting, lolloping lo-fi stormer who had to put her name to the reissue because Gerald reckons the tune's cursed and won't have his name associated with it. wottatune Here's a cleverly teased and marketed re-make/re-issue of a true acid classic. Fontana claim that A Guy Called Gerald initially refused permission for the re-release, claiming it to be cursed (ex-manager snaffling all the proceeds back in 88 and all that). The story made good copy, but he can't have been too upset, after all, it got him out of that Hulme flat, the McDonalds job, and many years later he's back on top. The original is included, as is his proto-jungle 'Voodoo Rage' remake from 93. The two twelves also include Alex Reece, with a jumpy/ping-pongy 'Spirit Of 88' mix, Francois Kevorkian's smoothed-out and totally 'Voodoo-less' bumpy New York affair, though is brill, and some dubbed-out, fucked-up, easy-listening-on-Mars fantasy from fellow Mancunian lionheart Justin Robertson. Mainstream club and radio interest will centre on the housey, percussive, and well-handbagged 'Man'chiavellian' mix. And Lisa May? Well, she's in the photos. Curse it all the way to the bank this time Gerald. ***** [Reviewer: Edited by Ronnie Randall] |

LISA MAY Appearing in doublepack glory, Gerald's classic house anthem gets a splendid reworking courtesy of Francois Kervorkian, with stron Tenaglia influences. Awesome. ****** (Wicked) [Reviewer: Unknown] |

LISA MAY This time it's everyone's favourite bit of Manc house attitude due for the '96 revamp. Luckily the new versions of A Guy Called Gerald's hit are totally ace. Best mix: '96 Smooth Mix Out now [Reviewer: Unknown] |
