13 Dec: Holic, Cafe 1001, Brick Lane, London, England |
Details13 December: Holic, Cafe 1001, Brick Lane, London, England Line-up / Promoter / Hello PartyHolics! We're gonna have a soul shake down party to end of 2009 in style!!!! This is the one you can't miss before 2010!!! Holic's X'mas SP is coming to 'Cafe 1001' in the heart of Brick Lane on Saturday the 12th of December with a special late night license! Holic are flying in two very special guests for this year's party. First up is A GUY CALLED GERALD with a special live set. Now based in Berlin, he is perhaps best known for his early work in the Manchester acid house scene in the late 1980s and of course the legendary track - "Voodoo Ray", one of the first acid house tracks produced in the UK. Having specialised in techno music produced using iconic equipment such as the Roland TB-303 bass synthesiser and the TR-808 drum machine, we can promise you nothing but quality acid vibes all night long! Our second guest is ROZZO of the MOUNTAIN PEOPLE from Switzerland. Rozzo’s smooth sound sees the party move away from minimalism into meandering, unhurried underground House. Being able to draw on the freshest material from the Mountain People collective currently guiding much of their scene certainly helps. His skill as a DJ is evident as seen at London's Secretsundaze, it will be fantastic!! Alongside our guests, HOLIC resident TOMOKI TAMURA will be playing all that is good about house music - from deep and melodic early on to more upbeat electrified sounds later in the nite. Two special guests and Tomoki playing in the back room with a fantastic Funktion One sound system and a beautiful brand-new lighting system, you can't miss this!! If that wasn't enough we also have TOBY TOBIAS bringing you an exclusive DISCO set in the front room!!!! Alongside will be Hackney Players Association dropping classics to brand new soul and disco on vinyl. They love their vinyl so their will be some good vibes in the front room with our good friend Kay Suzuki from ''Bipolar'', one of the most respected producers of funk sounds in japan. A GUY CALLED GERALD A GUY CALLED GERALD When u hear the name A Guy Called Gerald most people in this day and age would probably say "Who the hell's that?", those of you from back in the day are probably saying "I wonder what he is up to now" or probably have some sort of story around Voodoo Ray or Pacific State or Blow Your House Down or 28 Gun Bad Boy. Then there's another group of people who have followed me over the years and know the the full journey I've taken. Since I started in music I've seen the system change - the old structure crumble away as myself and many of the others I inspired emerged from the bedroom studio with our own self generating independence. I was one of the first to break the mould of the strangehold that labels and studios and PR machines had on artists. Let me just say that information is techno. The record company dam was broken and there was a tidal wave. It was further fueled by cheaper and cheaper studio machinery and finally the nail in the coffin was the internet. You have no idea how happy this makes me feel. Getting back to now I wasn't one then or now for riding the tidal wave so I want to give you an idea of what your experience will be hearing A Guy Called Gerald Live. I have a unique insider's view of dance music from the early 80's to now. I started out as a 14 year old dancer sneaking into clubs in Manchester when electro funk was the underground sound. No matter through what genre or in what decade you discovered this music I can guarantee you will leave with a clearer picture of the entire spectrum. For you geeks out there I'm coming to you live - and when i say live i mean Live - it's not a DJ set - there is no mp3s - no wavs - no aiffs - no preset sounds - you are hearing a fluid freestyle mixdown of my own music and my own individual takes on classics referencing the past - direct at 96kz - the exact quality and set up i use to write and record in my studio. My aim is to give you all a deeper understanding with as much enjoyment as is physically and mentally possible using the three elements more frequently missing from this music - the basis of all dance music : RHYTHM, MELODY and BASS. DJ KAOS DJ Kaos is an integral part of the Berlin underground scene, producing a variety of twisted dance music for a number of years now. His first single was a collaboration with Ash Ra Temples Manuel Goettsching (of E2-E4 fame.) The 12", made in 1991 when Kaos was part of downtempo scene leaders Terranova, was called "Toyko Tower" He's performed all over the Globe, from Europe, Japan to the US. He has released original music on such seminal dance labels as Eskimo, Kitsune, Playhouse, as well as early singles for Rong Music and now Rong/DFA. His remixes have proven in demand, remixing everyone from !!! (Chk Chk Chk) to Roxy Music to the New Young Pony Club. Kaos is a part of the exclusive K7 Records DJ Kicks mix series with his eclectic mix released in 1995, as well as his full-length solo LP released on K7 in 2005 featuring such vocal talents as Erlend عe, Matt Safer (the Rapture) and Cpt. Comatose. He also participated in the Faith Records "Collectors Series" with a mix CD entitled "Danse, Gravite Zero" created with Sal Principiato of the legendary NYC group Liquid Liquid. TAYO Tayo is a familiar face on the breaks scene where he can safely lay claim to helping shape the nu skool sound in the late 90's alongside fellow breaksters Adam Freeland and Rennie Pilgrem, who together promoted the genre forming Friction parties at Bar Rhumba & The End. After mixing his first Y4K album in 2000 his profile soon exploded to a worldwide audience. Not one to hang around, he quickly took things to the next level, launching his own label Mob Records with the debut release coming from long time friend and major breaks player Rennie Pilgrem with the seminal Some Place Funky. Over the years Mob Records released original music and remixes from artists including The Stanton Warriors, Lee Coombs, Kevin Beber, JDS, Santos, Meat Katie, Klaus Hill and Krafty Kuts to name but a few. To date Tayo has released four mix albums, and is the only artist to release two Y4K albums for Distinctive. Leaving Mob Records behind in 2004 Tayo has continued to diversify. He ran the Kiss100 Breakbeat Show for three years, ensuring it became an essential stopover for any breaks and beats artist when in town. Artists as diverse as MIA, Diplo, Rebel MC, and Smith & Mighty rubbed shoulders with the cream of the breaks and dubstep scenes as the show became a celebration of the syncopated sound. This did not go unnoticed at Radio One, who asked Tayo to move to the station at the beginning of 2006 to become one of the DJ's on The Residency, then In New DJs We Trust. Tayo has finished his run as a new DJ, continuing on at the station where he is now the official deputy for Annie Mac and Annie Nightingale. He has done two One World specials for the station and will do an Essential mix at the end of February 07. On the production tip Tayo has released records for Skint, Fat, Mantra Breaks, Functional Breaks, Bassrock and Passenger and worked with Acid Rockers, Freq Nasty, Care In The Community, Baobinga, Control Z and Sunz Of Mecha. He has done a plethora of remixes including reworkings of Jaydee's "Plastic Dreams" & Dave Clarke's "The Compass". With the completion of his debut album of dubwise beats and electro breaks finally on the horizon, Tayo is ready to make the same impact on your stereo as he can do on the decks. As a DJ, Tayo has proved himself to be open minded with his musical taste and determined to avoid the proverbial pigeonhole. Although happy to rock any breakbeat dancefloor worldwide he also likes to indulge his wider musical taste. He was co founder of, and one of the residents at Basement Jaxx's seminal Rooty club night in south London, playing out every year on the terrace at Space Ibiza with friend Frank Tope as the Rooty DJ's, and rocking festivals from Homelands London to Creamfields Buenos Aires with his house music hat on. More recently Fabric have given him scope to indulge in another musical obsession with the Cool & Deadly parties, where "the backbone is dub". Tayo will be taking this concept to some of the biggest festivals in the UK throughout 2007. He is also responsible for Tayo's Tracksuit Party, a celebration of the sports casual and the joy of an old school two piece Adidas... Snowbombing for the last three years, Notting Hill Carnival, Sheffield and Sydney are just some of the places that have been turned into a scene from Beat Street for an evening or two.... This musical diversity is best heard on his brand new mix CD, Fabric Live 32 which explores breaks, dubstep, baile funk, and electro in 70 minutes, which will continue to define Tayo as a forward thinking DJ and producer determined to rock more clubs throughout 2007. TROUBLE & BASS Trouble happens every time the Brooklyn-based crew of Drop The Lime, AC Slater, Star Eyes, and The Captain get together to throw their legendary parties. Bass is everything, whether the backbone of releases on the Trouble & Bass label or the driving force of their ballistic, sweat-inducing DJ sets: all timeless rhythms, unforgettable melodies, and surprise after speaker-quaking surprise. The crew presents the freshest in underground low-end, mixing together bass-driven house with dubstep, grime, Bmore club, hip-hop, Miami bass, and more. If you’ve been missing the raw energy that made electronic music so exciting in the first place, this is where it’s been hiding. Since Drop The Lime formed the Voltron-like crew three years ago, they’ve already earned kudos from heavyweight DJs like Diplo, Sinden, Moby, and A-Trak, unequivocal support from super-club Fabric London, and big plays from BBC Radio One’s Rob Da Bank, Mary Anne Hobbs, and Annie Mac. T&B Recordings (now on its eighteenth release) has been voted one of the best up ‘n’ coming labels by XLR8R Magazine and F.A.C.T. (UK) and has been featured worldwide in magazines like Serie B (Spain) and Dazed & Confused (UK). Trouble & Bass are defining a new New York sound and bringing it worldwide. During their two-week Euro tour, Star Eyes & The Captain will be throwing down the T&B crew's trademark "heavy bass" style |

1 and 2 Aug: Is It All Over My Face?, Rechenzentrum Funkpark, Berlin, Germany |
DetailsDate / Saturday, 1 August 2009 Line-up / A Guy Called Gerald LIVE 01.08. - 02.08. - IS IT ALL OVER MY FACE? Is It All Over My Face? - It Is All About The Music! The name IS IT ALL OVER MY FACE is a classic West End disco track from 1980 by Arthur Russell, producer, musician, artist… and now - a two day tribute rave celebrating electronic dance music in all it's forms. In Berlin there is of course a large selection of suitable locations, but the Rechenzentrum / Funkpark is very special. It has the best of both worlds with its Funkpark Outdoor nature AREA on the river and the INDOOR cube with its full club soundsystem and massive dancefloor – the only rival to Function One’s monopoly in Berlin. This place is unequalled in Berlin - perfect for a party inside and outside in high summer. Peace |

Details11 July: Classic Bang, Suicide Circus, Revalerstr. |

DetailsDear Bordel lovers, this week we really gonna look forward to two very special artists who blew us away with their amazing idea of a 24hours video documentary installation: BORDEL DES ARTS pres. MARIJA BOZINOVSKA JONES and SASCHA WYNESS “The concept for the show was born after spending 24 hours spontaneously meeting and then showing Berlin to 16 LA-based professional skateboarders. The result is an abstracted video recording filmed in Ambulance and panic. Memory loss. Contorted fingers, a black eye and lots of tattoos. Delinquency on DB bikes. Convergence of the momentary pleasure with the idols from a dissipated youth. Euphoria. Lethal cocktails of testosterone and alcohol. Swinging by Spree. Reigning Warschauer, then conquering Schlesische. Less hunger than thirst. Crossing fear boundaries. High25. Forgetting to sleep. Another bruise, this time on a neck. Sunday turning into Monday turning into...” She has exhibited at: the Freud’s Museum, London; the Biennale of Young Artists in the Museum of Modern Art in Skopje, Macedonia; AFAR in Copenhagen, London Fashion Week and ICA in London; Swarovski’s Crystal Palace at Salone Internationale dei Mobile, Milan, Italy as well as taking part in various audio-visual collaborations with numerous live artists, djs and theatre shows internationally. She currently works as a creative in commercial production for the EU. This stunning art Lady was introduced by the curator SASCHA WYNESS - native Australian of German heritage - now living in Berlin for the past five years. Having spent much of her childhood on film sets she then went on to complete a BA (Film), after which she worked on feature films, television production and in cinema advertising. She continued to pursue interests in painting and film-making but also to explore working with print-making techniques, enjoying the intricacies of intaglio and screen-printing. Her passion for contemporary art led her to employment in the Deutsche Bank art department, which was followed by the completion of her Masters in Contemporary Art at Sotheby's Institute, London. Since graduating she has worked as a freelance curator, having most recently curated two exhibitions for Australian female artists and a UK sports photographer. We say: Welcome, benvenuto, bienvenido, bienvenue, Willkommen to our 20th Bordel anniversary – with our lovely DJ-Lady MISS KIERAN & (we hope also with) C-LOVE who only can give us the right soundtrack for this exciting art spectacle - together with last minuted very special guest A GUY CALLED GERALD who will create live soundscapes and we are also very happy to announce.. |
