'A Guy Called Gerald' AKA Gerald Simpson needs little introduction, from laying the foundations for the Acid House revolution in the late 80's with chart topping hits like 'Voodoo Ray', to producing the bare bones of Jungle & Drum & Bass with works such as 'Black Secret Technology' & '28 Gun Badboy'. If you wanna really do your homework look up some of his aliases at the time (ie 'The 2 G's' for his pre Timeless collab with Goldie).

Expect a full live PA from an artist who built the foundations on which UK dance music sits. Still touring after 30 years & constantly innovating. We can't wait to announce this one!

Minirigs will be showcasing their new doppler speaker boxes so it's going to boom!

AWe made it, one year of All My Friends and we're celebrating all weekend!

Kicking off Friday, we welcome a VERY special guest all the way from Motown AKA Detroit. It's rare you'll catch at artist of this stature playing a humble bar like ours, but tonight you will - no tickets, rolling from 3PM until 4AM, special guest is at midnight. We recommend coming down early.

Saturday we keep things moving with a vinyl market during the day featuring some of our favourite local labels and second hand sellers. Music rolling all day & night (again until 4AM) soundtracked by the AMF's nearest & dearest.

Sunday we close out the huge birthday weekend, with another market, this time with stalls from independent zine & publishers. The soundtracked comes from some of our all time favourite selectors. Also, Uncle Hon is back with his BBQ for one day only ahead of normal service resuming, next week!

Pizza is on all weekend with our new menu, banging cocktails, beer and natty wines. Free entry as always all weekend, with walk-ins always welcome but if you do want a seat, then book via RESY.

A Guy Called Gerald, the Godfather of the Beat returns to Margate, this August, at the Legendary Olbys for a monster DJ set to get your bodies funkin.

Taking us on a full spectrum, multi genre, musical journey, at a Venue and on sound system, truly worthy of the bass and the funk.

An iconic name in dance music, A Guy Called Gerald stands out for consistent innovation, excellence and refusal to compromise. A Guy Called Gerald kick started Europe’s acid house frenzy releasing the first UK acid house record, the ’88 classic ‘Voodoo Ray’ and 'Pacific State' and went on to lay down the blueprint for jungle / drum n bass.

Nine albums and 25 years of independence later, he continues to push the boundaries of electronic dance music touring worldwide bringing his "true school" flavour to a world overloaded with pop pap.

Although his remixes are relatively enviable including the likes of David Bowie, Cabaret Voltaire, Black Uhuru, Finley Quaye, Lamb, Tricky and The Stone Roses, it is Gerald’s own productions and refusal to plough anyone’s furrow but his own which has marked him out. A Guy Called Gerald is responsible for the birth of British dance music as you know it today and continues to explore what is possible both in the studio and in the club with his "Live in Session" performances.

From guest spots at former institutions The End, The Cross & Turnmills to promoting and playing at long-running residencies North and South of the river, Nick has always displayed one key quality - an almost crippling passion for the music. His desire to DJ and play great records for people is still what drives him to this day. Now one of the thesis residents, Nick’s deep love of techno has come to the fore and it’s at the thesis parties where he gets to pour his heart and soul in to his sets, just like he’s always done.

After last summer’s genre-bending two part weekender, we’re welcoming back the UK scene tour de force, jungle and dnb pioneer for another summer session that brings together artists old and new in the bass, dnb, and experimental, left-field techno and beyond.

In addition to the Metalheadz main man, Room 1 will be treated to two very special B2Bs. Club mainstay Mantra returns to face up with Coco Bryce on the decks, and seminal dnb contributor Digital links up with Source Direct. Completing the bill is the beloved, innovative and highly creative live act that is A Guy Called Gerald, and Hooversound co-founder NAINA is also back to put us through our paces. MC GQ and Blackeye MC return for a host and toast too.

Meanwhile, genre-melting maverick Djrum is returning to Room 2 with technical turntable wizard Neffa-T and Rinse FM resident EMA rounding it off.

Making the concept of the DJ extinct in terms of how we once knew it, A Guy Called Gerald's LIVE performance blends a DJ sensibility with the Producer's mastery. It's a genuine LIVE act; a constant interaction with the crowd, a fluid jam session with an instinctive keyboard riff just as likely as a flurry of bass, always pushing the sound system’s capabilities to the limit and then some. Always a futurist, he doesn't need to impress with arrays of equipment. There's no need to prove his pedigree, he was the only one in what he likes to call the "analogue age" of electronic dance music in 1986. His philosophy has always been about pushing current technologies to their limit and to make what comes out of the speakers the focus. Close your eyes, let him take you back to the roots of where it started, funk you back to today and resonate you into the future.

Where do you start with A Guy Called Gerald? A hidden gem, the gateway between Chicago house / Detroit Techno and the UK dance music explosion in the late 80s. He is one of a few special producers who entered dance music in the jacking zone. He is the first UK acid house producer and probably the first producer to have two instrumental dance tracks in the UK charts at the same. He formed 808 State with a drum machine, a 303, 2 Roland SH101s and 2 other humans. His collaborations stem from Frankie Knuckles, Goldie, Finley Quaye and Derrick May through to Herbie Hancock, remixed for David Bowie, Lamb, Stone Roses, Black Uhuru, Can, Tricky, Roman Fluegel and The Orb and toured with New Order, Tricky and Bebel Gilberto. more at (** RA - https://ra.co/dj/aguycalledger... )

DJ TOOL’s quicksilver sound is as intrepidly propulsive as it is indebted to the old school. Isochronously authentic and assertive, his sets traverse percolating trance, frenetic techno and seductive psychedelia across an encyclopaedic back-catalogue of clandestine classics.
Enraptured by the raw essence of DJing, TOOL honed his style as part of Copenhagen’s Fast Forward collective, boasting an apodictic vinyl dexterity that quickly earned him international renown. High energy and even higher stamina, his anarchistic and indefatigable 8-hour(+) sets at Berlin’s Mala Junta have catalysed fabled closings at the likes of Tbilisi’s Bassiani, New York’s Basement, and London’s Fold.
As a co-founder of Mala Junta, TOOL’s assiduous efforts to politicise nightlife and re-contextualise trance within the queer underground has led to multiple collaborations with Berghain, as well as activist DIY collectives worldwide.
