Gerardo Delgado and Quinn Whalley's music as Paranoid London reveres a certain tradition. They use vintage hardware, and most of their records are pressed on 180g vinyl with simple artwork and minimal fuss. Their sound has always been inspired by the old school. They sold more of their debut album than anyone else without any press, reviews or promotional copies given away. They destroyed every party/festival they playe including Panorama Bar, Sonar By Night, Dekmantel & the Fabric 16th birthday party. This is the real deal: dirty, repetitive music for DJ's & dancers. Breaking beats since 1988, A Guy Called Gerald has been an iconic name in the electronic music scene worldwide for over 20 years. One of the UK's finest, most respected, innovative and forward thinking home-grown electronic music producers. With Music from: Live A Guy Called Gerald DJ Uncle Dugs & Andrea An amazing venue has been secured for a romping weekend of camping with friends and family. There will be good music, good times and all for a good cause! The party will take place in the beautiful surroundings of Thoulstone Park, Wiltshire and will run from the afternoon of Friday 5th August to Monday 8th. You can get your tickets, check out line up and find out all the latest news here: https://www.awamutogether.co.uk/ The Awamu Foundation has been set up with one target in mind, over the next three years we’ve challenged ourselves to ensure that 3000 orphaned and vulnerable children in the poorest slum area of Kampala, Uganda, get the education that is vital to their future. We believe that education represents the only way out of a life of entrenched poverty and potential exploitation. Like this party, Awamu is unique as all their work (both in the UK and Uganda) is driven by volunteers, reflecting our core belief – working together we can create something wonderful. We hope to cover all our costs and raise as much as possible towards Awamu's work. If you add a donation to your ticket price we will make sure that the full value of your gift is passed to Awamu. 100% of anything you donate will directly to helping vulnerable children gain the education that could change their lives. A Guy Called Gerald He kick started Europe’s acid house frenzy with his ’88 classic ‘Voodoo Ray’ and 'Pacific State' (as part of 808 State) and went on to lay down the blueprint for jungle / drum n bass. Nine albums and 25 years of independence later, he continues to push the boundaries of electronic dance music. |

DetailsAcid House Special: A Guy Called Gerald + Darren (808 State) at The Nest Date / Friday 8 July 2016 Line-up / A Guy Called Gerald On Friday 8th July we’re taking rave back to it's roots - 6 hours filled with acid & hedonistic sounds providing non-stop dancing & feel good vibes until sunrise. We couldn't think of anywhere better to host this than our underground basement with none other than 808 State’s A Guy Called Gerald heading the bill… Few people can claim to have had the impact on a musical scene as Manchester’s A Guy Called Gerald. Starting out in the late eighties and inspired by the emerging Hacienda scene around him, one of his earliest releases literally changed the musical landscape: his ‘Voodoo Ray’ track with its gurgling bassline, reversed samples and otherworldly atmospheres came to define the new acid house sound and has remained a timeless classic to this day. What’s more, work as part of seminal group 808 State also spawned the similarly classic ‘Pacific State’ and introduced generations of party people to a whole new sound. He is joined on the night by 808 band member Darren Partington who will be bringing the full acid house experience to the club. |

Derrick May has defined electronic dance music and is responsible for "Nude Photo", "Kaos'', "It is what it is'' and of course,"Strings of Life" which was inspirational in the acid house revolution. Joining Derrick is A Guy Called Gerald who's similarly respected for his early production skills of "Voodoo Ray" and "Pacific State" through to "Black Secret Technology" and the "Live in Session" series. We can't wait to see him return to Hacienda which played such an instrumental part in his early career. Completing the line-up is Justin Robertson & Jon Dasilva who renew their long association with the club, City and Manchester's thriving music scene. Justin's eclectic and diverse tastes continues to mark him out as a finely crafted DJ and producer. We can't wait to see what he has in store for us this July! Completing the line-up is Jon Dasilva who wrote the soundtrack for FAC 51's acid house adventure and was a huge influential figure in the journey of the club. With a string of cutting edge remixes and productions spanned across labels including Get Physical, Rush Hour, Soma, Mute and Deconstruction, Jon's expansive DJ sets demonstrate his wide musical tastes and expert ability. Hacienda at The Albert Hall remaining tickets here - https://bit.ly/HaciendaAlbertHall2ndJulySeeTickets The relationship between Gerald, the club and the shop go back a long way making this a special and one off return. Gerald's early work 808 State on "New Build" and "Pacific State" were initially released on the shop's own Creed Records label and as Eastern Bloc was the pivotal shop for the Manchester dance scene it came to push and support his releases from "Voodoo Ray" onwards. About Eastern Bloc, Gerald remembers that "There was a lot of diversity in the shops back then, particularly Eastern Bloc. It wasn’t just dance stuff in there, it was indie stuff as well. You’d pick up on all the gigs that were going on around in there as well. They were very much a community as well, they all chipped in and put together to get the shop going. They all had different ideas and were all coming from different backgrounds so I think it was interesting for people to go down there and get involved. You could always tell there was loads of activity, there were loads of flyers and posters all over the walls. It was a great time really." "Voodoo Ray" became Manchester's seminal track, and with its release many considered it gave the city a sound of its own. On Voodo Ray Gerald commented that "Voodoo Ray was totally designed for the Hacienda. That’s was the sounding ground for everything we were doing, even when I was working with 808 State, we always had the Hacienda in mind. It was kind of the place where you thought if we can play it in there that’d be really cool. I actually always wanted to bring the studio into the Hacienda, that was one of my ambitions but it was definitely a place where you’d look towards trying to make one of your tunes work there" |

3 June: Bosconi Showcase, Flash, Washington D.C., District of Columbia, USA |
DetailsA Guy Called Gerald, Fabio Della Torre - Bosconi Showcase at Flash Date / Friday 3 June 2016 Line-up / A Guy Called Gerald Friday, June 4th • Bar opens 8PM, Roof 9PM, Club 10PM Acid-house pioneer and veritable godfather of British dance music, A Guy Called Gerald makes his Flash debut alongside Bosconi Records boss Fabio Della Torre as part of our showcase highlighting the Florentine label. Bosconi's catalogue is deep, jazzy, unquanitized and filtered, with its feet planted firmly in house music history and its face turned toward the future. Established in 2010, the label boasts releases from Paul Johnson, Bruno Pronsato, Mass Prod, and of course, A Guy Called Gerald. Mysteries Of The Mind honcho Chris Burns guides us into the lower atmosphere as we begin our journey into space. Audio Zen returns to #FlashBar for their bi-monthly seance featuring the usual suspects: Alex Gardel, Graham Hatke and Trev-ski. Trev-ski (MOdERN CLASS) Graham Hatke (4 Hrs of Funk) Alex Gardel (Vague Output) A GUY CALLED GERALD: An iconic name in dance music, A Guy Called Gerald stands out for consistent innovation, excellence and refusal to compromise. A Guy Called Gerald kick started Europe’s acid house frenzy with his ’88 classic ‘Voodoo Ray’ and 'Pacific State' (as part of 808 State) and went on to lay down the blueprint for jungle / drum n bass. Nine albums and 25 years of independence later, he continues to push the boundaries of electronic dance music touring worldwide bringing his "true school" flavour to a world overloaded with pop pap. Although his remixes are relatively enviable including the likes of David Bowie, Cabaret Voltaire, Black Uhuru, Finley Quaye, Lamb, Tricky and The Stone Roses, it is Gerald’s own productions and refusal to plough anyone’s furrow but his own which has marked him out. A Guy Called Gerald is responsible for the birth of British dance music as you know it today and continues to explore what is possible both in the studio and in the club with his "Live in Session" performances. Since 2012 he has been working on a side project with Graham Massey (808 State) called REBUILD performing live jams on the Roland machines. “How Long Is Now” was released on Bosconi Records in 2012. A live album Silent Sound Spread Spectrum followed from the Society of Sound Series – a collaboration between Bowers & Wilkins and Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in 2013. In 2016 he continues to be in demand worldwide with his Live In Session shows using a vast patchwork of past, present and future experimenting effortlessly between early acid house through abstract tech breaks into dreamscapes of futuristic oscillations. At Glastonbury Festival this year he will be performing with Funktion One’s Ambisonic Experimental system – a six stack Ambisonic full-sphere surround sound technique that is ‘capable of recreating accurate three-dimensional sound stages from original recordings’. In the studio he is busy recording a steady stream of releases on his own digital label and a new album due out in mid 2017. "I have decided the only way to give music to the people is raw and straight from the true school. I don't have to hide behind any trend or gimmicks. ie. analogue equipment and vinyl fetishism. I'm sorry to say but I still feel like I'm blazing the way forward only because everyone seems to be stuck in "retrogression" mode. Maybe they need a stop / start to get them out of the loop? I refuse to compromise when it comes to my sound. I realised that I'm the only real deal within dance music when I found it was impossible for me to sell out. This is the True School." FABIO DELLA TORRE: Fabio Della Torre alias Corcos is the founder of Bosconi Records and part of the project Minimono together with Ennio Colaci. His dj carrier begins at Tenax, Florence, in 1995. Since then he has been gigging in almost every corner of the Italian peninsula and appeared in some of the best clubs internationally. Among the clubs rocked , we count Panorama Bar, within a Bosconi Label Night, Concrete Paris, Dc10, Rex Paris, Animal Social Club in Rome and many others.. His surgical and spot-on mixing skills allow him to embark in versatile journeys, ranging from deep house to raw techno-funk and more quirky and minimal dance cuts, where it becomes clear the major influence that labels like Logistic, Telegraph, Perlon and Tuning Spork had on him since early 2000. Since 2004, Fabio has produced music under pseudonyms as Minimono, Corcos, Quitefrut, and with his dj name Fabio della Torre. He has published on Bosconi records and on labels such as Telegraph, Tunigspork, Ethique, Tenax, Oslo, Cargo Edition, Points, Teng and his works have been remixed by artists such as Cabanne, John Thomas, P & D, Jay Haze, Eduardo De La Calle, Trimsound, Gari Romalis and last but not least Mr. Scott Grooves. In 2008, from the need to give his own vision of electronic dance music also coming from representative of the Tuscan and Italian, Fabio founded together with Ennio Bosconi records and a little later with his friend and DJ Rufus was born the younger sister Bosconi Extra Virgin, dedicated to sounds more disco and funk, downtempo and electronica. To date, Fabio has brought to life more than fifty records on Bosconi Records, featuring an impressive number of internationally acclaimed producers: A Guy Called Gerald, Dj Nature, Andres, Paul Johnson, Scott Grooves, San Proper, just to name a few.. And some young and promising italian artists such as Herva, Life's Track, Nas1, Rufus, Dukwa, Riccio.. taking the label to a world-wide hall of fame, gaining a RA Label Of The Month feature and a label nights in clubs like Panorama Bar and Tresor. |

DetailsLa Linea presents A Guy Called Gerald & Ariwo at The Pickle Factory Date / Sunday 17 April 2016 19:30 - 23:00 A Guy Called Gerald, Ariwo An iconic name in dance music, A Guy Called Gerald stands out for consistent innovation, excellence and refusal to compromise - tonight he plays a live set of his own music. A Guy Called Gerald kickstarted Europe’s acid house frenzy with his ’88 classic ‘Voodoo Ray’ and ‘Pacific State’ (as part of 808 State) and went on to lay down the blueprint for jungle / drum n bass. Nine albums and twenty-five years of independence later, he continues to push the boundaries of electronic dance music touring worldwide bringing his “true school” flavour to a world overloaded with pop pap. Ariwo is a Cuban/Iranian quartet, focussing on the unexplored intersection between electronic and Afro-Cuban folkloric music. The band combines the raw energy of Cuban rumba shows with the deep melancholy of Iranian electronic music. They are stopping off in London prior to performances at the first Manana Festival in Santiago de Cuba in May. The word Ariwo means “Noise” in Yoruba and underscores the band’s emphasis on sound and its desire to combine traditional rhythms into a live electronic performance that challenges perceptions of ancestral music, and connects diverse cultures from around the world. Ariwo comprises Iranian electronic composer, Pouya Ehsaei (Entr’acte), and three of London’s most influential Cuban musicians: Oreste Noda (Sambroso Sambroso), Yelfris Valdes (Sierra Maestra) and Latin Grammy winner, Hammadi Valdes (Carlos Acosta / Irakere). Pouya processes their live instruments while creating soundscapes and hypnotic rhythms that draw influence from the folkloric music of Cuba and his home city of Tehran. https://ovalspace.co.uk/events/view/la-linea-presents-a-guy-called-gerald-ariwo/ |
