An iconic name in dance music, A Guy Called Gerald stands out for consistent innovation, excellence and refusal to compromise. A Guy Called Gerald kick started Europe’s acid house frenzy with his ’88 classic ‘Voodoo Ray’ and 'Pacific State' (as part of 808 State) and went on to lay down the blueprint for jungle / drum n bass. Nine albums and 25 years of independence later, he continues to push the boundaries of electronic dance music touring worldwide bringing his "true school" flavour to a world overloaded with pop pap.
Although his remixes are relatively enviable including the likes of David Bowie, Cabaret Voltaire, Black Uhuru, Finley Quaye, Lamb, Tricky and The Stone Roses, it is Gerald’s own productions and refusal to plough anyone’s furrow but his own which has marked him out. A Guy Called Gerald is responsible for the birth of British dance music as you know it today and continues to explore what is possible both in the studio and in the club with his "Live in Session" performances.
Since 2012 he has been working on a side project with Graham Massey (808 State) called REBUILD performing live jams on the Roland machines. “How Long Is Now” was released on Bosconi Records in 2012. A live album Silent Sound Spread Spectrum followed from the Society of Sound Series – a collaboration between Bowers & Wilkins and Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in 2013.
At Glastonbury Festival for the last 3 years he has been invited to perform on Funktion One’s Ambisonic Experimental system – a six stack full-spheresurround sound technique. In 2020 he continues to celebrate 30+ years performing Live in Session at world class festivals such as Vivid – Live at the Sydney Opera House.

Emerging in the late 80’s as UK’s first acid house producer, A Guy Called Gerald bring his raw, pure, undiluted AGCG sounds to Wildlife at The Toff!
As a pioneer of 808 State, A Guy Called Gerald planted the seed for dance, jungle and drum ’n’ bass music. He went on to collaborate with Goldie, Frankie Knuckles, and Derrick May, as well as remixing for the likes of Lamb, David Bowie, and Stone Roses. His 1995 album ‘Black Secret Technology’ has been praised as the best jungle album ever by Pitchfork.

His sound is always emerging, experimental, and pushing the limits of dance music. Launching his Juice Box label in the early 90’s and setting the tone for Jungle music, to creating his Sugoi and Protechson labels in 2005 which kept him from being stereotyped from any particular style of music, A Guy Called Gerald now focuses on his live, no software, no gimmick sets.
Joining A Guy Called Gerald will be Rafiki, Jolie, Kovac, and as always, DJ Jnett to help release the roots of rhythms & melodies in music all night long.

A Guy Called Gerald is 25+ years of dance music incarnate. From “Voodoo Ray” in 1988 to “Tronic Jazz” released on Germany’s respected Laboratory Instinct label in 2010, this man is a self-written bible of dance music.
He is one of a few special producers who entered dance when it was jackin’ and has never let up. He was the first UK acid house producer and achieved the rare feat of having not one but two instrumental dance tracks in the UK charts at the same time. He formed 808 State with a drum machine, a 303, 2 Roland SH101s and two other humans.
Over the course of his career, Gerald has collaborated with everyone from Frankie Knuckles and Goldie through to Derrick May and Herbie Hancock. His remix credits are equally impressive with reworks in his back catalogue for David Bowie, Lamb, Stone Roses, Can, Tricky and Roman Flügel as well as having toured with the likes of New Order and Bebel Gilberto.

Our third Rodeo season commences with a rather convincing demonstration of the Rodeo concept: a delightful mixture of the very finest our local scene has to offer, together with the kind of international flare that is so powerful and unique, that we ourselves can hardly sit in our chairs while writing these words.
From a project that was formed almost as a result of a coincidence, the Ritter Rodeo is slowly turning into Ritter Butzke's Berliner showcase, when it comes to a perfect balance between our hard core of experienced local ravers and musically educated guests.
The previous edition proved beyond any doubt, that epic nights do not require celebrity DJs with very little in common with the Berliner scene. On the contrary: the members of our techno community protect it by endorsing those who love our community as much as the community love them.

Aus einem Projekt, das quasi zufällig entstand, ist das Rodeo langsam zu dem Schauplatz des Ritter Butzke geworden, wenn es um eine perfekte Balance zwischen einem harten Kern aus lokalen erfahrenen Ravern und musikalisch gebildeten Gästen geht.
Die Vorgängerausgabe hat zweifellos bewiesen, dass epische Nächte keine prominenten DJs erfordern, die mit der Berliner Szene wenig gemein haben. Im Gegenteil: Die Mitglieder unserer Techno-Community schützen und unterstützen die, die auch die Community so schätzen wie sie selbst.
