Beatjugglin' as its best! Support kommt von Crosstown Rebel Matt Styles, sowie Wittes vom Frühschoppen Team.

3rd May: The Hacienda 25th Anniversary Tour, The Junction, Cambridge, England

Saturday 3rd may | doors 10pm-4am
Featuring: Graeme Park, 808 State, Bez from Happy Mondays and A Guy Called Gerald
£12.50 door / £10 adv 18+

It was the club that inspired a musical generation, defined a scene and put dance music firmly on the map in the UK then the world. Although the old site on Whitworth Street, Manchester has now been replaced with a block of flats, the feeling and energy behind The Hacienda, and those heady days will live one forever.

Originally conceived, founded and financed in 1980 by Factory Records and New Order through a deal steered by Rob Gretton, the manager of the by then disbanded Joy Divison, The Hacienda first opened its doors on 21 May 1982 sporting a Factory Records catalogue number of Fac 51, a pioneering interior designed by architect Ben Kelly, Graphics by Peter Saville and featured Bernard Manning as the opening night act.

Not surprising that all if these forces combined turned The Hacienda into where is widely recognised as the birthplace of Acid House, and is responsible of shaping the face of UK club culture as it has since been known.

This summer sees the 25th Anniversary of The Hacienda since the legendary Manchester nightclub first opened its doors in 1982.

Peter Hook (Hooky) – New Order/Joy Division bassist & co-founder of The Hacienda is behind the launch of ‘Hacienda 25’ – a series of very special events/projects to celebrate the life of the legendary club.

This is going to be an event not to be missed. So book early to avoid disappointment.

The line-up includes:

Graeme Park
808 State DJ's (Andy/Daz)
Bez from Happy Mondays
A Guy Called Gerald
+ many more

Maifestspiele. Same procedure as every year. Naja…fast. Rave on!

Live: A GUY CALLED GERALD | UK | Techno, House, Ambient
Dj Set: ROLLERS INC. | Italy

Faccio musica per me stesso. A dir la verità, è l’unica cosa che so fare. Farò musica per sempre.” - A Guy Called Gerald

28 March:  Urban Gorilla, The Plug, Matilda St, Sheffield S1,Yorkshire, England

Friday 28th March
A Guy Called Gerald Live
Paul Woolford
Alan Chapman
10.30pm - 5am @ Plug (Neutral)

There's been a lot of talk of "twenty years of acid house"; of late, with all kinds of people clambering over each other to hop on the memorial bandwagon. And fair play to them. Here at UG, we haven't bothered, cos we don't really do that kind of thing (and maybe we just didn't think of it anyway). But if we were to put on a twenty years of acid house line up, then it would probably look something like this. And be bloody fantastic.

A Guy Called Gerald is a genuine icon of acid house music. Not just because he was responsible for one of the scene's defining and all time classic tracks "Voodoo Ray", and a member of one of the greatest groups working in the sound, 808 State (with whom he produced another defining classic "Pacific State"). All that helps of course. But what makes Gerald a true icon, for me anyway, is his determination to keep experimenting in music and technology, which has reaped so many rewards within and beyond house music. He was a prime mover in the development of jungle and drum'n'bass for example, and produced one of that scene's greatest albums as well. Last year's album "Proto Acid - The Berlin Sessions"; saw his feet firmly back in the realms of acid house and techno, and this special live appearance ties in with the project behind that album, an apparently long held dream to
take the studio into the club. This, therefore, is your chance to witness a true legend in his element.

Does Paul Woolford epitomise where acid house is at in the UK now? Well, it fits the blurb pretty neatly, but quite frankly, who knows? What I do know is that Woolford is one of the finest producers and DJs in the country today, inspired by, working from, and building on the template of acid house, if you like. I also know, on the evidence of past appearances at Urban Gorilla, that he always rocks the dancefloor, in a way that few others can. As a result, we love him at UG, thought he'd be the perfect compliment to AGCG, and know he's going to tear the place up and leave everyone with a smile on
their face.

So yeah, it's not a twenty years of acid house party. It's not about nostalgia. It's just another amazing night at UG (and of course, the UG ressies are on hand to do the business as always). But it is a little bit special. And it's going to be flippin' fantastic.

We have a very very special party planned at this Sunday's Retox! Performing a live set upstairs, we welcome along dance producer extraordinare, A Guy Called Gerald... AGCG needs little introduction; from his first forays in the 80's with b-boy electro funk, a string of singles with his 808 State collective, and producing one of British house musics most recognized hits, Voodoo Ray, he has more than made his mark. He has since gone on to produce and collaborate on many projects including working with David Bowie, Herbie Hancock, Ursula Rucker & Finley Quaye. Now located in Berlin, he will be showcasing his live set encompassing Detroit drenched techno and sparkling electro - do not miss! Joining him upstairs, we also say hello to Enzo Siragusa from Electric Sex & Vitalik fame alongside the residents... We have another treat in store for you downstairs too as those Frankfurt/Ibiza hedonists, Monza, take over the basement! Residents Dorian Paic and Vera will be joined by Miss Fitz for this session. Doors open at 9pm and close at 6am. Please arrive early for this one!!!!
