Arch rivals [808 State] in the slanging stakes only, A Guy Called Gerald breezed through town a few nights earlier. Midway through a six week Stateside club tour, Gerald has fleshed out the line-up to a more permanent three. 'Voodoo Ray' is still the best track, a haunting, off-the-wall atmospheric piece, fully deserving its chart action. From then on, Gerald seems too eclectic, too unconventional to get that follow up putsch. Still with club and radio being chummy in the States, the Moss Side sampler has hope yet .
