Wild Weekend - Ignition
Wild Weekend - Ignition (12" Single)

UK 1989 12" Single; Parlophone: 12R 6228

6:19 Ignition [Bingo Bass Mix]

Released:

September 1989.

Credits:

Written by Al Scott (now Al Roberts) and Johnny Bull.
Produced by Stephen Hague.
Mixed by Gerald Simpson (A Guy Called Gerald).

Comments:

Produced by Stephen Hague (famous for Pet Shop Boys and New Order productions), and mixed by "Gerald Simpson (A Guy Called Gerald)".

Beware when trying to buy the CD single, as it took me 3 attempts to find a copy with Ignition on it, and not their previous CD single (CDR 6221)!

The 12" only includes the 'Bingo Bass Mix', and the CD single only includes the 'Gerald's Chordcappella Mix'.

AL ROBERTS

"In the early years, Al wrote and performed in Widnes band Wild Weekend (formerly Burning Airlines) who supported bands like Nick Cave's Birthday Party, as well as recording sessions for the legendary John Peel at BBC Radio One.

After moving to London in the mid eighties, Al (then Alan Scott) formed a new band with Johnny Bull (later with Rialto) under the same name, Wild Weekend. They signed a deal with EMI Parlophone Records and worked with producers such as Stephen Hague (Pet Shop Boys / New Order) Stuart Levine (Simply Red), A Guy Called Gerald and Nelly Hooper.

This period also saw Al touring with The Blow Monkeys, The Pasadenas and Roachford. This last version of Wild Weekend did have some limited chart success (see The British Guiness book of hit singles under Wild Weekend).

Following the band's demise, Al had a one-act play called 'Grimm' aired on ITV. He then began to write for the stage and had plays performed at various theatres in the northwest, whilst taking on acting and directing roles himself.

Al continued to write and perform music and in 2006 completed 'Life is what you do', a collection of 12 of his musical musings.

He is currently working on songs for a second solo album.

Update from Al Roberts (November 2012):

"By the way I've just finished my second album called "the wrong way to the right place" available to family friends and stray dogs only and just supported Nick Harper and also Sad Cafe. "
