2007 Message from our Chairperson

Dear Friends,

In my fourth year of office as the chairperson of Linlithgow and Linlithgow Bridge Children’s Gala Day I write this letter with thoughts of last year and feel as though it was just yesterday that Catriona Grant crowned Jodie Robb Queen of Hearts on a lovely summer's day with the palace and St Michael's Church as a beautiful majestic backdrop to a wonderful day.

The Gala Day takes many months of hard work to prepare. The fund raising, rehearsals, stage building and float building only take place because of the determination of the committee members. They work tirelessly to make sure the Children have a day they will remember for the rest of their lives and I thank them on behalf of the community for their continued support.

The wider community also support and contribute to the day, the schools, youth organisations, bands, clubs, churches, Deacons Court and many more. To them the committee are very grateful.

This year it was a great honour both personally and for the committee that Ms Caroline Turpin agreed to be our lady crowner. Caroline has always been a keen supporter of the Gala, having been a committee member for a number of years, an ex Queen herself in 1970 and daughter of past provost of the town Ian Stobie who was also a keen supporter of the Gala. Caroline’s mother, Irene, also crowned the Gala Queen in 1983. Caroline, is therefore, keeping up a very strong family tradition.

This year the honour of being Queen of the Gala goes to Sophie Whitfield. She joins a long list of young ladies from the town who have been honoured to be crowned Queen of Hearts. I hope that Sophie and her family have a very happy and memorable day and enjoy the part they will play in making the Gala a success.

The committee continues to be under strength in numbers. Although last year some new and hardworking people joined the committee we would still welcome more people to join the committed group who make sure our community celebrations continue.

I hope everyone involved in this year's Gala enjoys it as much as I enjoy being involved in it. Whatever your involvement, from cheering the children on the street to taking part in the procession, be assured that not only the committee but also the children value your support greatly.

Yours sincerely

Evelyn Kidd
Chairperson
