Yes, the ZX80 uses a 4K integer BASIC written by John Grant of Nine
Tiles Networks in Cambridge. The ZX81's 8K floating-point BASIC (which
also works in the ZX80, only without the SLOW mode) was written almost
from scratch by Nine Tiles' Stephen Vickers, who later went on to
write the Spectrum's 16K ROM using the ZX81's as a basis.
The official upgrade consisted of a ROM, ZX81 manual (which Vickers
also wrote) and the keyboard overlay you mention.
