Terrapin Vivarium
This large open air terrarium supports almost all of our terrapins.
They live in here all the year round and hibernate in the pond during
the winter months with no problem. The only clearly visible terrapin in
this shot is a European Pond Tortoise (Emys orbicularis) of which
there are 5. To date this is the only species that has successfully bred
in here. There are also 8 Red Eared Sliders (Pseudemys scripta
elegans) and 2 Stripe Necked Terrapins (Mauremys caspica).
One of our greatest pleasures is gained from sitting in the terrarium in the summer months, usually surrounded by a circle of terrapins hoping we might have some food for them.
