| This is a large terrarium containing both land and water sections. This shot shows part of the dry land section planted with a mix of grasses and heathers - mainly Erica spp. with some Calluna. One of the lizards, a female "Russian" Sand Lizard (Lacerta agilis exigua) can be seen basking on the log. There are eight of these, together with 6 Green Lizards (Lacerta viridis), 3 Italian Wall Lizards (Podarcis sicula) and 6 Slowworms (Anguis fragilis). All of these species breed in here regularly and successfully. There are also a number of amphibians - see the picture illustrating the water section. |  |
