FWIW, I have a copy of the Acorn bridge ROM, 8KiB:
   http://www.heyrick.co.uk/econet/acornbridge.dat
and a copy of the SJ bridge, 16KiB:
   http://www.heyrick.co.uk/econet/bridge/sjbridge.dat

Maybe comparing the operation of the two could shed some light on things?
