Subject: Trivia: Arcadians bug ?
Hi,
I recently mentioned to my colleagues that I was chatting on this mailing
list about retro Beeb stuff and the fact I quite liked playing Arcadians. I
got rather ribbed for this, but I got my own back, I asked what is the
maximum score possible in a single level. I also pointed out that they had
to play it first and I'd know who hadn't.
Seems simple enough;
(convoy/charger)
2 leader ships worth 50/100 or 150/200/800 when present with a leader guard
ship
6 leader guard ships worth 40/80
8 "sergeants" worth 30/60
30 "grunts" worth 20/40
Therefore the maximum score for a single level would be;
2 x 800 + 6 * 80 + 8 * 60 + 30 * 40 = 1600 + 480 + 480 + 1200 = 3760
Well, if you gave me that answer I'd know you hadn't played it!
The real answer is 3920, why is that ?
Well, the leader ships get counted for the 800 and the 160 for the two
outriders (leader guard ships) so we have 960, but for some reason another
80 is added to the 800 so we now get 1040.
They're still frantically trying to shoot only the ships descending and
trying to get the combo for 800 (1040)
Two lying gits came back to me after about three minutes to tell me 3760,
but they are breaking a sweat now!
Dave ;)
