Li s a May - The Curse Of Voodoo Ray (Fontana)

Here's a cleverly teased and marketed re-make/re-issue of a true acid classic. Fontana claim that A Guy Called Gerald initially refused permission for the re-release, claiming it to be cursed (ex-manager snaffling all the proceeds back in 88 and all that). The story made good copy, but he can't have been too upset, after all, it got him out of that Hulme flat, the McDonalds job, and many years later he's back on top. The original is included, as is his proto-jungle 'Voodoo Rage' remake from 93. The two twelves also include Alex Reece, with a jumpy/ping-pongy 'Spirit Of 88' mix, Francois Kevorkian's smoothed-out and totally 'Voodoo-less' bumpy New York affair, though is brill, and some dubbed-out, fucked-up easy-listening-on-Mars fantasy from fellow Mancunian lionheart Justin Robertson. Mainstream club and radio interest will centre on the housey, percussive, and well handbagged 'Man'chiavellian' mix. And Lisa May? Well, she's in the photos. Curse it the way to the bank this time Gerald.
