Today saw a fantastic start for our youth squad with 30 children taking part, learning racing in all types of boats. The wind was blustery which meant it was great fun, including the safety boats which were kept busy with numerous capsizes! Everyone had a great time and came off the water with big smiles. This will be running for the next 5 weeks along with many other events for Datchet youth sailors.

The winner of the competition to pick a new name for Datchet Water Sailing Clubs youth squad was James Osbourne with “Datchet 20 knot Squad”. Congratulations James and thank you to everyone who took part and voted in the competition.

Light winds made the junior race training day a challenge with the morning session requiring lots of paddling skills just to make it to the start time.  All the junior racers have just completed six weeks of race training using the new six Club Toppers, Lasers, Topaz’s and one RS Tera.

Sundays training focused on racing starts, which was slow in the morning due to a lack of wind.  Luckily, the wind filled in for the afternoon resulting in some great starting procedures.

Hope you all enjoy the photos.....

Charlie found a paddle!!

Keep paddling!!

India found the wind!!

The wind finally came in

With the water level dropping, all Club members are advised to launch their boats from the two side launching slipways next to the car parks.  Launching from the beach in front of the Club house can be dangerous in the wet conditions due to the steep slope.

On weekends, a winch system is in operation for boats who wish to launch in front of the Club House.

All Club members are asked to be considerate to each other when leaving their boat trolleys in the car park or on the slip way.  Please keep an access way clear at all times for everyone to launch and recover their boats.

26 September 2009

The second Summer Sailing Camp have got under way with some great sailing conditions for the youth sailors who are training for their Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Limited spaces are available for the next few weeks for any juniors wishing to take part in the summer camps.

Good luck to all the Laser 2 sailors who are making their way from Datchet to Weymouth for the Laser 2 Worlds - we hope they have the best results around the race course.

17 July 2009

With lightening striking the water today, sailing was temporary suspended to allow the storm to pass.  The weather forecast is looking good for Saturday’s Race Course run by Andy Williams - places are still available so get your details in by email to training@dwsc.co.uk before the end of the day!

Dates have been added to the Junior Courses run over September and October Half-Term.  With these courses proving popular during the summer term, parents are advised to book in early to avoid disappointment.

Calling all Safety Coxswains - an email has been sent out requests all qualified Safety Coxswains to email in their availability for Club Safety duties between September and March.  We would like to thank all Safety Boat Coxswains for their time and cooperation in providing a safety service to all Club members on the water.

Any Club members wishing to gain their RYA Safety Boat qualification should email their request to training@dwsc.co.uk as we are keen to recruit and train new safety coxswains.

Notice boards around the Club have been tidied up with old redundant notices removed and the boards in the changing room corridor arranged into sections for Lasers, symmetric fleets, asymmetric fleets and Cat / multi-hull fleets.

All members are welcome to add messages to the boards.  Each message must be dated as they will be removed after 2 months unless otherwise requested.  It is hoped that this will make reading the boards much easier and provide enough space for new messages.

In early May we lost our old website due to it being hacked and almost simultaneously our web hosting company going bust.  We have now started developing a new website.  Please bear with us while we recreate most of the content.  The format may change numerous times before we are done.  Any offers of help will be gratefully received.
