Home Up Accommodation Calendar Find Us Reception Weather

Currently (July 2003) we have eleven boats, plus in winter those who flee the rough coastal weather. In summer, there are 5/6 regulars every Sunday - allowing for the August holidays and occasional female sabotage. The sailing is competitive and the fleet usually lunches together after racing.

In addition to the Sunday Club series racing we have several events:
an Open Meeting which, from 2004 onwards, will take place in early July
the Club Winter Warm Up - the four Sundays in February (in 2004 a once in 28 year occurrence is 5 Sundays)- usually also attended by 4/5 of those, from other clubs, who take the circuit seriously and show the rest of us the way round
our FF Frolics which are a social/fun/experimental Saturday/Sunday event; this year we had a children's race (children from 8 - 15 crewing) and a pursuit race based on our fleet internal handicaps (the system was described in Yachts and Yachting in June 2003) as well as two conventional races. Prizes for almost everyone and fun for the rest.
Fleet Championships normally held in September when wind is likely to be more reliable. Serious stuff - plenty of needle.

The fleet is a sociable group and includes extended families whenever possible. There is a regular summer barbeque and prize giving at the home of a member (hopefully the weather is good and we can do it in the garden) at which partners and children are welcome. We have a large number of trophies and the Club funds other prizes.

The Club is giving more and more support to the Fleet. It has bought and refurbished a boat to allow potential new Club/Fleet members to get a feel for an FF before committing to buying one. The boat is competitive at Club level so the feel is genuine. This Club FF can also be made available to a member who is temporarily without a boat.

All in all, this is an active and enjoyable Fleet and Club and we intend to grow the Fleet.
