Wall Lizard (Podarcis muralis).

This little character is just that - a real character. He was rescued by the RSPCA in Blackpool who contacted me. I put them in touch with a local herpetologist who identified the lizard, and, after its guest appearance on Animal Hospital, it came to live in one of my outdoor vivaria.

He has proven to be a magnificent lizard. While already mature and having lost most of his tail during his bid for freedom, once here he re-grew his tail - one of the most perfect examples of regrowth that I have ever seen AND his body mass almost doubled. He is now the largest muralis I have ever seen.

Unfortunately he is a bit of a bully and I had to move him to a vivarium with bigger lizards who could put up with him. He promptly escaped again and survived several months in the garden avoiding cats and other predators with no harm.

He is now on breeding loan to a friend with a Wall Lizard colony who was looking to add a little genetic diversity.
