At the rising of the moon
I saw Beauty
Speaking to the Night
Of the weary Waters.
Am I not,
-This sitting silence -,
Carrying in me
That murmuring stream
Which the plain embraces,
Which the Sun lifts
With ecstatic kisses
Up to the azure heights?
It runs on,
Passing through deeds and fates,
Through pains and pleasures,
Through blood and hope.
Will this long,
this gainless journey,
Ever have its gain
Of the infinite sleep of the Ocean!
( "Weary Waters" is one of nine books of modern poems within "The Blossom of Astonishment".
They were written during a period of three decades in the poet's life.
This poem is also available in the original "Persian". ) |
