Elizabeth Howell
Colourful Bar

Elizabeth Howell says of herself:

"I was born in 1983 and began writing poems at the age of eight. In 1997, I won the District Award of the Marion Drysdale Poetry Contest, and in 2001 I won the District Award for the Royal Canadian Legion Youth Poetry Contest. I enjoy reading poets such as Robert Frost and T.S. Eliot."

"Masks"

I own a collection of masks

They're heavy but I carry them around

They hurt but I wear them

        The masks are

        cheerful

        confident

        optimistic

They hide what's inside

Don't get too close

Don't peel back the mask

You may get scared

I may get scared

I'll be what you want me to be

Believe the mask and I'll believe it too

I know no other way.
